 Cartridge Filters & Elements for Liquids

The cartridge filter, basically is a pressure vessel with inlet and outlet ports and has one or more
cartridge-style replaceable elements in it. The cartridges have cylindrical shape, and one open end
which plugs into the housing, sealed by O-rings or flat gaskets. Although general dimensions of filter
cartridges are similar, the end cap design with the O-rings vary and limit the interchangeability.
Cartridge filters are very popular in industrial process applications, relatively easy to run, and can be adapted to changing requirements by choosing a different cartridge. The filtration spectrum ranges from coarse (100 micron or more) to micro/sterile filtration (less than 1.0 micron). Cartridge styles are metal screens, ceramics, molded porous polymers, string wound cartridges, resin impregnated fibers, wound media or extruded fibers, pleated paper, nonwovens, or membranes. A filter concept needs to take critical process requirements into account... max. operating pressure and temperature, chemical environment, venting and draining, in-line cleaning or sterilization, back-flushing, or integrity testing. The sizing (no. and size of cartridges per filter) is based on pressure drop restrictions, the expected service life, and the available footprint. Over-sizing will be benefital to increase the life time and safe replacement element cost per processed liquid. Applications are accross the process industry: water and beverage purification and bottling, juices, cosmetics, chemical and bio-processed pharmaceuticals, cooling and lubrification fluids, R.O. pre-filtration, film coating, high-purity chemicals for semi-conductor manufacturing. Other and related applications include hydraulic oil, home drinking water purification, or pool & spa filters.
